Refusing to deliver snow, the moisture freezes ice sculptures over the land creating a cloak of fleeting elegance for even the lowliest tumbleweeds. As the prairie stills in the relentless heat of endless days in the sun, small animals move only with the shade of tall grass and yuccas. Even rattlesnakes den up in the shelter of rocks. Evening thunderclouds taunt the land with empty promises of rain.
